Welcome to Loyal K-9 Apprenticeship and Mentor Program
I would recommend taking a Mentor/Apprenticeship Program or take a “Train the trainer program” with Loyal K-9 to anyone looking to pursue a career in dog training, animal related career such as a veterinarian, animal behaviorist, animal trainer at Sea World, trainer of animals on movie sets, mentor children in their own cities to get them away from video games, help keep them out of trouble or become a professional dog trainer themselves and start their own business. This is a great stepping stone to those goals.
I enjoy teaching the students about positive-training methods so they can teach more pet owners to get educated on how to teach their dogs using proven methods of training. We teach how to train dogs with love and respect and with a positive and negative reinforcement training method.
By taking my program you can observe my classes and training, or assist with the dogs when asked. I will give you tasks and duties needed to be a Trainer, a Kennel Technician, or maybe teach a class yourself at times, as well as explain things to owners (puppy lessons, potty training, how to evaluate a dog, offer information on how to resolve or prevent separation anxiety, etc). My classes are a little different than a traditional class, because I address minor behavior problems and will often have one reactive dog in the class who is learning how to behave around other dogs and people. You would also be taught temperament, breeds and different breeds mentality.
I learned as a child growing up with house pets. I always had a certain connection with them. When I went into the military being a K-9 handler, I began to learn everything I could about dog training. I have always had a natural ability with dogs and being able to communicate with the owners.
I was inspired to start training dogs when I went to Iraq and Afghanistan to be an explosive detection dog handler. At about the same time, I began to offer my help to other handlers with better ideas on how to train their dogs. When I came back to USA I was finding myself helping people in my neighborhood. As I result, I began helping people and created a business doing what I was already doing that felt natural to me.
I know there are children out there that need a mentor or need some structure in their life, or maybe need some guidance before they graduate. Maybe they do not realize by volunteering, working or training at a dog training facility can open up new avenues in their future.
I found it humorous once when a troubled teen told me one time. “What do you know about anything? You’re just a dog trainer!” Well, I replied by saying, “I am not just a dog trainer. I am also a war veteran and a civilian dog handler that saved hundreds of lives as an explosive detection dog handler in two major wars. I was a police dog trainer and instructor for over 27 police and sheriff departments. I am a business owner, an entrepreneur (invented my own line and style of leashes and collars), website designer, a mentor, community speaker and a spokesperson for different schools and seminars”. I ended it with “Would you like to do that too?” His face was priceless.
